Attitude talk

Today the year 7 & 8 girls and boys had a separated meeting about puberty. This lovely lady names Jannah came in to talk to the girls. She was very kind and tried her best to make us comfortable. She talked to us about a lot of things, but the thing that stood out for me was when she was talking about our self esteem. She was talking about how she thinks once we hit puberty our self confidence kind of goes down. She also talked about setting high standards and self value. As an example she pulled out a 5 dollar note and asked which one of us wanted it, of course we all put our hands up, but then she stopped and started saying mean words about the 5 dollar note and again asked who wanted it, and again we all put our hands up, finally she scrunched it up and for the last time asked which on of us wanted it, and again we all put our hands up. She then asked why we still wanted it and most of us said "well, because its 5 dollars", she then began to talk about how just because you said mean things to it and scrunched it up doesn't mean it lost its worth. I found that lesson, rather inspiring. Jannah is thinking of coming in on Tuesday next week which I am hoping she is. It was really fun hanging out with all the girls and it was also amazing that it was a safe place to share.

Back To School

Last week on Monday, students got the chance to come back to school and have a sum-what normal last few weeks for the year. When I found out we were going back to school I was super exited to finally see my friends and start learning in person again. I feel like being back to school has really lifted not only my  spirits, but everyone else who came back. Seeing everyone was really nice and also talking about what was happening during lock down and knowing that I wasn't alone. I am really exited to finish off this year strong and leaving with my head held high since it is my last year here.

Two way probability tables

This task we got given is our first maths task to the term. In maths we learnt about the new way we are going to be learning. I think we are all looking forward to learning about probability for the next few weeks.

Treasure Hunters #1

Today I got introduced to a new reading site which I am finding very fun and interesting. It is called Epic, and its where kids can read online books that they are interested in. I find it very amusing to do, and I am hoping I can start reading more in my free time. I have just today already done 34 minutes of reading this book called Treasure Hunters #1. There are other parts to this book so I am so exited to finish this one and hopefully finish them all very soon. The chapter I have read already from book 1 was so intriguing and kept me thinking the whole time I was reading it. I'm not going to talk about it until I finish the book so stay tuned for a lot more updates very soon.

My Lock-down

This Term has been pretty crazy with everything going on in New Zealand and around the world. The start to this term was amazing with all of the fun sports we got to do like netball, basketball, and a bit of Rugby league. But then a little into the term we had out level 4 lock down which has lasted throughout the whole rest of the term. I was sad that I didn't get to socialize with anyone besides my bubble but also re leaved as school work at school is a bit more stressful then being at home since at home you get to work on your own time. Being at home helped me improve my other talents like baking and cooking for example. Most of the women on my dads side learned how to cook and bake at a very young age and have been trying to pass it down to me as I am the next generation. I am so grateful to have these skills because I know that I will need it to help me in the future. Another plus to this lock down is that it helped me get along with my family in my bubble and also extended family because we do video chats every Friday night just to check in with everyone. We even sometimes play games online such as Among us. Remember to stay home and stay safe. Also stay positive better days are on their ways.

Classifying Numbers

Task Description: Starting this week our math class has started a new topic which is Geometry.

Emma Twigg

Task description: This task was a take that I got a few weeks before lock down but never really came around to finishing. So I took it upon myself to finish it off properly. By the way the diet plan at the end is what I think, the diet is based on the sport she does which is rowing.

Advertising Poster

Task description: Our Literacy task for today was to create a poster advertising an item in our hour. As you can see I picked Bug spray. I though it would be a fun and interesting thing for me to do my poster on. I tried my best to point out the cheap price because I've seen on many other advertisements for things, they always make the price stand out so that people will by it.

Persuasive Writing

Statement: Hippos should have to wear deodorant while walking the streets of LA

Hippos, like any animals, can produce a foul odor that is not only unpleasant for other animals but also harmful to humans and the environment. According to studies, the deodorant that hippos are given not only smells good but also improves the environment. It is scientifically proven that this hippo deodorant makes trees and plants grow faster. For example you have a wild hippo walking around, when they come into contact with any type of plant it is proven to actually grow faster.

The hippos benefit from this deodorant because it helps them attract female or male hippos, depending on the flavor. All of the berry flavors, for example, attract female hippos, while others, such as watermelon or apple, attract the males. It's proven that now over 82% of hippos are now using this product which not only leaves them smelling good for other hippos it is also great for humans.

This product actually was proven in a recent study that it helps hippos live longer than their normal life span which is about 40-50 years. It extends that by a few hundred years. It enters the skin cells and goes to it's heart and lungs and makes it better and stronger. It also helps them walk around the hot streets of LA for a long time without needing water around them all the time. It also benefits all of their thick skin by keeping the cells feeling and looking young and wrinkle free.

I hope you now know why Hippos should have to wear deodorant while walking the streets of LA

Task Description: Hello everyone this was my writing task from last week that I decided to finish off. As you can see from the title this writing was a Persuasive piece. Just saying if you can't already tell all these stats and everything in this piece is made up so none of it is real. This was overall really fun piece of writing because we were given a bit of freedom of what we were going to write about which I really enjoy.

My all about me Poster

Task Description: This is another finish it off task that I decided to finish. For this task we had to show some of the things that make us who we are. As you can see for me I put my two culture flags in the center which are the Samoan flag on the left side and my Tokelauan flag on the right. On the bottom of my flags I have put my active side which is me going on runs around my block in the mornings, and some of the sports I play. Now on the top part I have put my lazy/free time side, which is more of gaming and eating. And lastly I put my name in the center. It is actually a big part of who I am because I am the third generation of my name so it is pretty special to me.

Kei hea a Amo? ( Where is Amo?)

Walt: Understand, and use, location words

Task Description: Today since we have again gone into lock down unexpectedly I decided to finish off some work. This is one of the tasks that I got assigned during rotations.

Extension Term 3

Task Description: Today in Extension we had a talk with what a controversial topic was and through out some ideas. Me and my groups main focus was umpires and referees. Stuff like "how are they picked to umpire/ref Olympic games? " and also things like " how do you know they aren't biased?"

We have just went over what the umpire/refs job was and what they are meant to be doing. We also covered what types of sports they ref. Take a look at our slides to see what their job really is, and some facts about them. We are going to be adding on so stay tuned for that.

Watch this space ( animation)

Task Description:Hello everyone, this is my animation for the second semester of 2021. It was all about my four main planets, which were Earth, Mercury, Venus, and Mars, with some information on the sun and moon thrown in for good measure. This term's theme was, overall, incredibly fascinating and interesting to learn about, and I'm sure that everyone feels the same way. If you need more time, take a break to go through the fascinating information I discovered during my research. Sorry if my voice over didn't come through and you couldn't hear it, but given the limited time we have with the Imacs before they are taken away for the holidays, this is the best I can offer. Hope you enjoy my animation for Term 2 2021 Thank you for listening.

Being on Time!

Being early!

Why is it important to arrive at school on time? You've asked, well hear what I have to say about it. Students can develop the pattern of being punctual with powerful benefits by arriving on time to school. It allows you to be even more self-sufficient than if you were late. People that arrive late to school are more likely to  do poorly because they are rushing, which causes your brain to become anxious, causing your entire body to become tense, making it difficult to concentrate. Running late on a daily basis is harmful for your health, not just physically but also mentally.

I hope you now think twice about going to bed early and waking up early.

Task Description: This is an example of one of my attempts at persuasion writing. I talked about being late because it is a thing that both children and adults come across in their lives. Please leave in the comments anything I could work on.

Equality

The state of being equal is referred to as "equality." Racial equality, gender equality, or equality of opportunity between rich and poor is frequently associated with progress towards the ideal of everyone being really equal. Every person is equal in front of and under the law, and has the right to equal protection and advantage from the law without discrimination, including discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, or other circumstances. People are still battling for multiple kinds of equality today, which I find to be quite sad. I have a feeling this isn't going to stop anytime soon, but I'm hoping it will at least improve in the near future.

KPMG Trip

Last week on Wednesday the Extension group for 2021 along with a few others got the amazing opportunity to go to a place in the city called KPMG. My highlight of the day besides the food was the experiment for my group. We were all divided into teams ours was Earth, and the others were Fire, Air, and Water. Each group was given an experiment to complete depending on their names. We had to make oobleck for our project, which is just a cornstarch and water mixture. When I was making my oobleck, I realized that if you put pressure on it, it would be a solid and then when you lightly touched it, it would be a sort of liquid. Even though it got really messy, overall it was super fun.

Finally, I'd like to express my appreciation to KMPG for providing us with a fantastic trip. And I'm hoping that the next few individuals that join us on the trip will have as much fun as we did.
